My son Hugo is four. He surprised me by his awareness and curiosity about death last fall. He seems pretty perceptive for a little guy, and sensitive – at least as far as how death would immediately affect him. I was moved by his considerable fear when he hasn’t had much firsthand experience with loss. I’m still figuring out how to talk religion and philosophy with him, and I feel like I’m a little late on some things. So I broached the subject of Easter this week. Continue reading
I kept trying to write about Jack’s new toddler bed yesterday, but I was continually thwarted. I will take that as a hint that there’s something more urgent that I should be blogging about. There are lots of things up in the air for our family in the new year (even more than usual).
We watch the Disney Cars movies a lot around here. There was a major character in the first movie named Doc Hudson, who was played by Paul Newman. As he passed away before the second movie came to be, Disney acknowledged that Doc also died and it is mentioned briefly in the movie. Hugo finally noticed this recently, and we had a conversation about it. Continue reading
